Angry Birds Epic RPG review
Rovio Entertainment Ltd.
The description of Angry Birds Epic RPG
Rovio managed to create a whole universe around one of its successful games, which in addition to games includes a lot of other things. Starting with the shooting of birds from a slingshot the series gradually moved to the designer Bad Piggies, Angry Birds Go racing, and now to a full-scale role-playing game called Angry Birds Epic – perhaps, the most epic game in the famous universe.
Angry Birds Epic is a full-scale RPG, created in the best traditions of the genre. It is a fairly straightforward role-playing game with basic gameplay, which is tactical battles. The story is linear – the bird’s army moves along the route determined by the plot, winning back the stolen eggs from the enemy pigs. All the events unfold on a really huge map, most of which is hidden under the fog of war even after three hours of play. Given that the levels appear from time to time on the branches of the main route, it is difficult to estimate how long it will take to complete the entire Epic.
The battles are colorful and not at all as simple as it might seem at first glance. Each combat unit of your feathered troops has two options – to attack the enemy or conjure a spell. The process of the battle is to restore the protective and strengthening spell, while simultaneously destroying the enemy.
At first, there is very little space for maneuver and tactics, and the outcome of the battle largely depends solely on the ratio of the opponent’s forces to yours, but as you progress, the tactical element becomes a priority. It is necessary to choose the three best birds based on their abilities and take into account the strong and weak qualities of the enemy to conduct an optimal battle strategy.
The controls of the game are quite good. Training during the first levels shows the basic tools. Even a small 4-inch screen is enough for comfortable gameplay. Everything is intuitive and simple.
Replay Value 3/5
Angry Birds Epic is free and supports in-game purchases. Players need to play for at least three hours to get to the sixth level where they can supply their army with worthy weapons. Sometimes, it is difficult to pass the levels, and many give up, accusing Rovio of extorting money from players.
The linearity of the plot does not allow to postpone the battle until later, so you have to fight to the bitter end. All these factors negatively affect the replay value of the game.
As for the graphics, they are very good. The picture is really pleasing to the eye. All items are well-displayed on the characters, battles are replete with effects, and pigs get bruises that look real.
Traditional musical themes come out as music, and constant screams of the birds are not boring, although you can constantly hear them.
Angry Birds Epic is probably the best game in the series and the best project the Rovio has at the moment. It is a beautiful, smart, and dynamic role-playing game that hooks you right from the very start.
